Suggestions and Help / Re: Should I change my user name?
« Last post by Zoetrope on Today at 03:28:54 AM »
If you go to the shop tab, you can buy a name change token there for 50 bits. Then go to your Inventory and use the token, or something like that. I only used one once, two April Fools ago, changed my name to Firemane Prince Darkblood or something... ahah. But yeah, I don't quite remember how using it works but I'm pretty sure you just go to your profile inventory.
Considering nobody even uses the shop tab or bits or anything these days, I wonder if it would be possible to make it a forum profile option? Would be more convenient..
Thank you, I never thought of using the shop tab. I'll have to give that a try then. When I come up with a better name, I'll put aka. Key Frame in the title, so that I don't cause any confusion. I want my OC's special talent to be animation, since that is what I'm passionate about and going to school for. My OC is going to have a cutie mark that reflects animation in some way and I want the OC to have a name that goes well with animation.

Spoiler for Hiden:
Although it's probably doctored, I'll still ask: "is that real?"

Because unnecessary censorship is funny but I'm just can't think what they would have been doing  ???

I don't particularly like any of his episodes but I do like his answer there. (Okay, maybe Over a Barrel because of Braeburn)

Like how he accepts some people don't like his works and that's okay but he doesn't have to necessarily answer for it.

If there's a way to target individuals then it should be done, but if that's not possible in most cases (and I'm assuming -- correct me if I'm wrong -- it's difficult given that we don't hear a lot about internet anons getting arrested even after many of them have committed criminal offenses online) then we need to look at the bigger picture.
I think it's difficult to track down "anonymous" people online but I think the main hindrance is that it's not effective, that is cost-effective, for what needs to be done to actually stop such a thing.

It also might be a matter of priorities. For example, reporting emails of cyberbullying to the police vs suspected terrorist activity vs hacked picture account. (Just using that as an example of different priorities; not claiming one thing more important than another)

Yes, I know that people will still find ways to break the law and invade privacy on the internet. I've never said that any of this would completely put a stop to anything. My point is that it will, as you put it, make a dent. I'm not really concerned with the idea of shutting down internet trolling, because that's never going to happen. I just want their efforts slowed for a while.
Actually, now reading the other posts, a "dent" might not have been the best analogy?... maybe a "delay"... because a "dent" really doesn't mean much because once the damage has been done there's no turning back. (Once those stolen pics are online...)

We could postpone people doing such things or spreading the word about such things, but it will happen as long as such-minded people have relative anonymity and capability.

Media / Re: Why the main character in Skyrim is a Mary Sue
« Last post by SnoWidget on Today at 02:45:52 AM »
Who cares? No-one wants to analyse the Dragonborn's character, the game is about being badass and growing to be even more badass. This is worse than the "Twilight is a mary sue" topics we get every now and then.
The people in the thread discussing it? Sorry analyzing bores you, but I'm not forcing you to read our fences of text here.

I could go on by showing off my worryingly-extensive knowledge of Elder Scrolls lore by talking about CHIM and how there is a mythological (in-universe) basis for player characters existing without being Mary Sues but really, having read through this argument again it feels like you're just bothered that people are favourably comparing Skyrim to Dark Souls for some reason?

JonnyJinx is absolutely spot-on and summed it up better than I ever could, that the Dragonborn isn't a character that people become invested in because it is, for all intents and purposes, just an avatar for the player. The Elder Scrolls isn't that sort of series; people enjoy it for the gameplay, the feeling of living another life in another world, of being able to explore and be free to do as they please. It's useless to talk about "canon" because on the whole, there isn't much of a canon in terms of in-game events aside from the main quest; good luck finding any concrete references to the other questlines from previous Elder Scrolls games in Skyrim. There is an incredibly rich and extensive lore background to The Elder Scrolls, and that's the story aspect that gets people hooked, not looking on each game as a coherent, linear story with a defined character, because there is no defined character there. It's not that sort of game, to be blunt.

To address your point that the developers "intended all of the questlines to be completed", sure, it's possible to beat almost all quests in one playthrough because it would be a pain to end up locking yourself out of quests, but that doesn't mean that it's canonical that the Dragonborn completed every quest, or that it's "correct" from a roleplaying perspective.

Honestly... I do think that you're making a big fuss over nothing here, because even if the Dragonborn was a Mary Sue, what does it matter? Are you bothered by the Dark Souls comparisons or something?
I don't really care for canon since there won't be one for the DB's personality, as I said before. What I dislike mostly about Skyrim's character and story choices it's pretty much when it comes to making said choices, I find myself nearly always rail-roaded during questlines. I don't want to sell my soul to your god of luck, yet I'm not given the choice in the matter.(unless I just leave the quest forevermore unfinished, but where's the fun in that?) Which is something which generally annoys with Skyrim, it's suppose to be a pretty open world free-will type game where you make the choices, but if I ever want to make my own choice it seems like the game is never willing to offer it, which really kills the experience for me.

Suggestions and Help / Re: Should I change my user name?
« Last post by Mirage Seraph on Today at 01:51:11 AM »
I thought it might be redundant to start a new topic with a similar topic and just thought I'd reply here. I too am thinking of changing my username. I want my username to be the same as the OC I want to create, but I just realized there is someone else that has a youtube channel that goes by Keyframe, so I need to change mine. I still want my name to be associated with an animation term.  :-\
Um, is there a way to change your own username. In the modify profile tab, I don't see were you can change the user name. Can somepony please let me know what to do about changing my username?
