So I'm a complete nerd when it comes to history, and Late Antiquity is my favorite time period. I find the functioning of the Roman Army at this time to be very interesting, and all of the disputes as to why the Western Roman Empire fell. Anyways, I was wondering if anybody would be interested in a slightly historical RP set in the frontiers of Gaul (basically france), where Rome had seen extensive fighting with Germanic barbarians.

Basically everyone would have a choice of if they want to be a merchant, a barbarian (either siding with Rome - Foederati-, enemies of Rome, or just neutral), a roman soldier of some kind, General, tribal leader, normal citizen etc... Basically anything that makes sense for the setting.

I haven't decided when exactly the RP will be but it will probably be around 400 ad or earlier. So yeah, that's basically it, let me know what you guys think.

I would be fine with that, the Eastern part of the Empire did at times send some aid to the Western Empire. So I don't think it would be too much of a stretch to have an alleviating force sent from the Eastern Roman Empire sent to help the frontiers.

Like I said, I don't want to make this super strict on the historically accurate scale, I still want this to be fun.

At the time of the RP there isn't that much of a difference between the military of the Eastern and Western Empire, but the east did utilize cavalry more than the West.

Anyways, if we can get one more person I'll start up an OOC.

I would imagine... they were economically and socially prosperous. Also, would this be about the time of Constantine and the Christianization or are we further back than that?

This Rp is going to be about 100 years after Constantine give or take. Thus the Empire's state religion, and the majority of its people, is Christian. Although this is about the time of Arian Christianity's rise as well, so you can take that into account.

No, this mod is going to be about 380 - 410 ad, something around there. I'm actually debating whether we should do a united Roman Empire with Theodosius or with his successors Arcadius and Honorius ruling their respective sides.

Okay, so the rp will be set at 405 ad, when both of their reigns were new.

I know arcadius' wife Eudoxa was the real leader in the East and pretty much a tyrantess

Yeah Arcadius was known to have almost no backbone when it came to ruling. He basically had most of his advisers or his wife calling the shots. I'm just gonna make an OOC and see were this goes soon.

Whatever you would like to be, doesn't matter to me. As long as you have a reason to be near Augusta Trevorum, then it's all good.

if eastern troops were stationed in the west during the western decline I could perhaps be a young soldier sent with a detachment of Byzantine troops who is a pretty spiritual guy but kinda begins to see how the treatment of the barbarians opens his eyes a little more spiritually

I'm really not sure how else to do a stepping on legos roleplay those were just some thoughts I'd had. Otherwise it could be where we're all lego characters and we have to try not to get stepped on.
