The Bang Dream game is supposed to come out sometime this month (no set release date yet) and I'm really excited. It looks like a lot of fun:

Mentioned this in Chit-Chat already yesterday, but fuck it I'm hyped!

Yesterday I had my dad get me tickets for him to take me to upcoming Ninja Sex Party concert in Seattle on September 26th! I don't think my dad has yet looked up what they're like online after buying me the tickets so it'll be fun to see his reaction to it when we go in five months. :monster:

Super excited to see NSP live!

Not only is Medievil coming later in the year, but THIS beautiful gem (pun intended) is also dropping by. I'm SO excited!

As a huge fan of Spyro, I was practically ripping at the seams over all the rumors, teases, and leaks (legit and trolls) until that trailer finally showed up. I'm honestly so glad it's official... and now, I just have to wait.

... I'm also giggling to myself knowing that, somewhere in the world, Elijah Wood is also giving off the happiest, goofiest smile of excitement, as he too is an OG Spyro fan.

To think, just a few years ago, I was bemoaning that the Spyro trilogy had not been remastered or remade. It's one of those things that I figured would be left by the wayside for some legal reason or another. I don't follow this stuff besides seeing things in the headlines, so maybe this was on the horizon for a bit, but from my point of view, this took me completely by surprise. Also, damn! The quality is amazing! I hope the controls aren't mucked with though.

Then there's Medieval which I never suspected to get remade. I didn't think enough people even remembered it. Again, it's something I found really cool - although I didn't get to play it much because I didn't have a Playstation at the time - and then it like so many other IP's disappeared. For every Metal Gear Solid and Crash Bandicoot, there were a dozen other franchises that vanished into dust.

That's the unfortunate truth about old IPs. Some are popular enough to be remembered by a long list of fans and kept alive in their hearts, others become wayside cult classics that stay in the time period they were made. Kinda glad Medievil never suffered that fate with the renewed interest.

Though, in regards to Spyro, the writing was on the walls for the most part. Ever since Crash came out, everyone KNEW Spyro would be fast approaching, especially since the 20th anniversary was coming up.

Eh, don't have a Switch, and my enthusiasm for Smash is... moderate at best, since it was obviously going to get a new game (it's gotten a new one every single generation, so DUH)

Now, if Sony actually manned up and tried "Playstation All-Stars" again, I'll be excited, cause THAT would be a real surprise.

It's not so much that it's a surprise that it's a new game, most of the Smash community had been expecting a Smash game at this point. It's just because it was probably the least likely time they would've announced this (way later than we were expecting a port, but way earlier than we would've expected a new game, and they dropped it in an otherwise dull Nintendo Direct), and also because of the fact that we're getting a new game in the series so close after the last one. Oh and cause it's a Smash game on the Switch, of course

Also, I can't speak for anyone else in the community, but I'm also very excited because of the direction that Switch era Nintendo has been going as opposed to the Wii/Wii U era. I talked about it in this poast:

<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dkv4SSE0Puo" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dkv4SSE0Puo</a>

I really like this video. Not only cause it’s good and has a lot of interesting things to say about the future of Paper Mario, but also because it explains the reason why I’m so particularly excited for the new Smash game

Nintendo has been on fire lately, EVERYTHING they’ve been doing seems to be directly in response to the large amounts of fan backlash they've gotten over the years. From BOTW to Mario Odyssey to the Pokemon and Metroid announcements to just the Switch itself, they really seem to be trying to earn back a lot of the good will that they kinda lost during the late Wii-early Wii U era

However, if there’s one group that Nintendo has pissed off more than anyone (besides Paper Mario fans…and Metroid fans…and F Zero fans…damn, they’ve really pissed off a lot of fans), it’s the competitive Smash scene. When I think of examples of the worst way you can possibly handle fans of your franchise, I think of Nintendo and Smash. Nintendo’s bewildering dislike of competitive Smash is practically legendary, they’ve done everything from refusing to allow streaming rights for seemingly no reason to C&Ding a fan project made for the competitive scene to making a game that was basically a message saying that they didn’t want the competitive scene as fans

So yeah, Nintendo’s history with competitive Smash is one of their biggest black marks. If they’re ACTUALLY serious about rebuilding the respect and passion of their fans and making games that fans want, then competitive Smash is the most obvious choices to focus on, and this new Smash game would be the perfect time to do that

(And yeah, it’s true that Smash 4 was kinda sorta an attempt to make up for that, but the problem is that the game is still basically Brawl but slightly better. I mean, it says a lot that barely any Melee players really play Smash 4 at all, and its scene is mostly made up of former Brawl players. Arlo’s quote in the video I think applies pretty well here: “I never understood the idea that because the game wasn’t purely terrible that we have no right to complain. I’d say taking an incredible series and turning it into something that’s only okay is still quite a bad thing and perfectly reasonable to be upset over”)

It's true Nintendo seems to be turning over a new leaf to a degree, but Nintendo has been known to be stubborn as all hell when it comes to the business. Always keep an eye on them, and don't be afraid to call them out for stupid shit.

Also, in regards to Brawl and Sm4sh, that was Sakurai, mostly. He wasn't a fan of Melee, and was going out of his way to try to make the later games as far and away from Melee as possible without sacrificing the core gameplay. If Smash Switch is more like Sm4sh than Melee, you can probably blame him.

Oh trust me, I don't want to give Nintendo any slack. All the things they've done in regards to Earthbound and Metroid I do really hate (and I'm not even really a fan of those franchises), and the shit they've done to Smash and Paper Mario are things I may not ever forgive them for. If the game turns out to be bad (unlikely but possible), then yeah I'll gladly hop off the hype train. But still, Smash is my favorite video game franchise period, and a new game in and of itself is ultimately what's hype about this to me (the new and improved Nintendo stuff is just a bonus). As long as the game isn't straight up bad, I'll be excited

As far as I know, this isn't really true. He actually thinks Melee is a great accomplishment of his and has said that that it's "the sharpest game in the series". I think it's not so much that he didn't like Melee, it's that he didn't like the fan reaction to it

Not necessarily, it could also just be because they'll just wanna reuse some assets and other stuff from Smash 4 for the sake of resources and time, a la Splatoon 2. I don't really expect it to bring back most of the things that Melee players REALLY want (like directional air dodging) and hell, there are some things that I don't even want to come back (like L canceling. Fuck L cancelling, it's dumb and stupid, come at me Melee purists). All I'm hoping for is to at least make the game less defensive and more combo oriented. Longer hitstun, less frames on moves, etc

I am looking forward to Dark Souls Remastered, despite the recent stormy mood coming from the fanbase since the early build footage has appeared.

I am more than satisfied with what I've seen, generally I value remasters more when the original is an aberration that has terrible technical issues and requires a mod to be played properly, which is the case for this game on PC, and if it runs anything like the scholar version of dark souls 2 and dark souls 3, it's perfect.

Price is something else though... $40 is quite a bit of cash. I am really hoping at least a discount is available, since I own and have beaten all 3 souls games (only haven't played demon's souls and bloodborne because I can't afford the consoles). There have been cases I got remasters of games for free, but I am okay with paying a reasonable amount of cash for this.

Lastly I was nowhere near this game's peak popularity back between 2011 and 2012, and there is no doubt it will happen again with remastered, especially with all of the new blood. I might regret that though, since invasions aren't my thing.
