So, as the video games go, is it a good idea to play Witcher 1 and 2 before 3?

I'd suggest you do so more for story reasons rather than gameplay ones.
If you really want to enjoy the lore and history behind those games, it'll be best if you play them in order.
And this is coming from a guy who hasn't played the first one.

I was glad I did, but it's definitely not necessary. It was good to see some characters and locations from the previous games return, but you won't miss too much without them. Geralt's prior history with Triss and some of the background about Yennefer and the Wild Hunt, as well as prior events with Philippa Eilhart, are probably the most important things from the previous games. The Witcher 2 will cover most of that, if you do want to play a previous game.

I decided to start from the beginning anyway. I'm on Chapter II of the first game now. I got all the romance cards in Chapter I, I think, so... yay? :monster:

So far it's a pretty cool game, though certainly has shown its age, and this combat system is... unusual, to say the least. Aard seems kind of OP, considering it can just OHKO anything that has gotten in my way so far (including the Beast)

Netflix officially confirmed they're doing a series about The Witcher.
It wouldn't be the first one but colour me intrigued.
