The elements of harmony have saved the world on at least twice, and the Crystal Empire once, and this whole thing with Daring Do is "in over their heads"? Really?

So, nothing new on that front really.

I enjoyed the episode well enough even if I spent a good chunk of it going. . .

Okay... Just finished watching it.  My initial gripe about the whole "in over our heads" thing still stands... sorta. I mean the writers did sorta-kinda acknowledge that the mane 6 did do some extraordinary things in their own right, so ^-^ for that.

I thought the mane 6 were really well written here, and I loved the story. Still not quite as good as other episodes, but this one is in my top ten for sure.

I also liked thee A.K. Yearling pun, it was nice.  I hope Ms. Rowling doesn't decide to sue over it  :-X

So far, these episodes have been remarkably solid and well executed, with good writing all around. Keep this up DHX and I'm going to get spoiled  :)

this is probably the first time this season I laughed my ass off in season 4 watching rainbow dash fangirl when she's with Daring Do was hysterical. So far I am enjoying season 4 but so far pinkie has ben out of character for 2 episodes and that worries me.

Overall: Meh. Okay, perhaps it's just disappointment over all the delicious speculation based on pre-hype that just came tumbling down -- but there was so much more that could have been done with the opening premise. Could all of it have been done in 22 minutes? Of course not, but I felt there was a lot of time wasted on, for example, RD catching herself fangirling 4 or 5 times (we get it already!) and the protracted action scene at the end. (Yeah, so I don't like action scenes much. I prefer the plot progressing instead).

Also, I'm concerned that the revelation that Ahuizotl is real and presumably a threat against Equestria didn't get more attention from the characters. Shouldn't Twilight, as a princess of the realm, be professionally interested in keeping track of that sort of thing? Yes, his plans were thwarted for now, but they all know that he always comes back.

Also, apparently Opal jumped ship and became one of Ahuizotl's henchcats instead.

I'm honestly like the fact that they got that out of the way early. I admit I say that mostly because I saw the A.K. Yearling is Daring Do coming from well before, and anymore time spent on the intial part would have ultimately been meaningless as soon as the "Daring Do is real!" happened.

It's a bit annoying considering the expanded continuity, but it's also not surprising given how the show normally operates. Storylines the revolve around certain characters usually stick to those characters and are usually isolated from the other storylines. It's not a great thing but it shouldn't be surprising by now.

Meh episode that could have been solved quickly if the mane 6 had stopped the guy rather then watch him get away...so much faster....of course then Daring wouldn't have gotten to the temple...but Twiligth could have mad her talk with the offical princess torture techniques

I am breaking my word because I really liked this episode and must say this.

Having caught up on the Indiana Jones movies and then seeing this was just too exciting, especially after seeing the pony based on Belloq. Nice adventure-y theme too, especially considering I did like the last Daring-Do episode.

Good episode, thought I'm a tad conflicted about Daring Do not being a fictional character in an already fictional universe. I felt there was a certain charm about that.

Because I have no idea if I can finish all of this in one setting, act by act review again.

Well....pretty much what I saw coming. Dash was a complete fangirl and you could totally take her attitude as how some bronies are like. Like when they found out we had to sit through nine months before season 4. And I was so hoping that they would have Daring Do be real after that screen shot.

Act 2....

I'm not even finished with it, and wow....they must have decided to make this an episode about nerds intentionally. Seriously, that argument from Twilight and Dash about what happened in the books is so much like actual fandom debates I've seen that...well...yeah.

Only serious flaw is that Twilight hasn't done much of anything to help despite being a princess of Equestria now. That's it.

Also, just in case its not obvious Daring Do is a pony Indiana Jones....we are stuffing so much references to him this episode...

Act 3.

OK. That ending actually helped elevate this episode up a notch. It was pretty much well paced given all the stuff they had to cram into 22 minutes.

As for episode ranking, not as good as Princess Twilight Sparkle but way better than Castlemania. 8.5/10 for me.

I actually really enjoyed this episode and found it funny and good for Rainbow Dashness. So yeah it was obvious the author was Daring Do and all but the episode was enjoyable throughout I felt.

Rainbow Dash is the most adorkable fan.

I wonder  if Daring Do is her real name and A.K. Yearling is her pen name or if Yearling is her real name and Daring Do is the name she goes by while doing the whole Indiana Jones thing.

I'm not even finished with it, and wow....they must have decided to make this an episode about nerds intentionally. Seriously, that argument from Twilight and Dash about what happened in the books is so much like actual fandom debates I've seen that...well...yeah.

I noticed that too, and it made me laugh.

The unnamed ring, the Indiana Jones style macguffin that drives the plot of the Indiana Jones themed episode of FiM, which is worn around the neck

Francis Drake's ring, the Indiana Jones style macguffin that drives the plot of the Indiana Jones themed Uncharted 3, which is worn around the neck

COINCIDENCE?!

...Yeah, probably

I know, I said that. Besides, there aren't any ring macguffins in Indiana Jones that I'm aware of

So I take it I'm the only one who thought the ring was a reference to LOTR and not something from the last five years that these forty-something year old writers wouldn't know about?

I don't know what the writers know of and don't know of, but even the title "Daring Do and the Ring of Destiny" (which leaked before the episode) sent me thinking about LOTR.

When the ring was thrown into the fireplace, I fully expected glowing letters to appear on it. Unfortunately none did.
